What is a SKID SIGN?

A SKID SIGN is a portable 4’ x 8’ sign! Our SKID sign is a sturdy metal frame holding a light weight 4’’x 8’ coroplast material sign face. A full color photovinyl print is normally applied to the face. The feet at the base of the sign can be sand bagged in place if necessary. Imagine a full size message—with a portability feature—informing or guiding potential buyers to your homes each weekend.

The SKID sign is installed late Friday or early Saturday morning by placing the sign at your predetermined location and, if needed, sandbagging it in place. Sign removal is at the end of the day on Sunday.

Location specifications vary with local ordinances and enforcement. In some areas SKIDS may be placed with land owner approval and the client will pay a ground lease. In other locations including public right-of-way areas, signs may be placed with a clear understanding of the potential fees, fines and enforcement exposure.

The SKID sign frame is the property of MSI (MSI owned). The client purchases the fabrication of a custom sign face and pays a fee to install the sign on a weekly basis.

Risks and Opportunities

Every product has its best uses as well as disadvantages. Our clients should be aware of potential downsides of the products and how MSI addresses those when applicable.

Potential Issues & Disadvantages   The MSI Approach
Fees and Fines: SKID Signs are illegal in many municipalities and are subject to fees and fines. arrow The MSI Approach: Educate the client of the risks and associated fines. Clients are responsible for all fines incurred.
Vandalism: Signs can be damaged or destroyed. arrow The MSI Approach: MSI attempts to place signs in the best possible locations and removes them at the end of the weekend.
Ground Leases: In some cases, MSI is able to obtain a ground lease for the SKID Signs and, in others, is not able to which makes the sign subject to enforcement or removal. arrow The MSI Approach: MSI carefully plans the routes and placements are made to maximize exposure. When a sign needs to be relocated  another alternative product or location is offered.
Heavy and Large: The SKID sign needs to be transported by someone with a vehicle large enough and a person capable of installing it. arrow The MSI Approach: Use weekend placers with appropriate vehicles and have the ability to lift and carry.
Weekend Issues: Issues can arise during the weekend when many offices are closed. arrow The MSI Approach: The supervisor of the area checks in with the client every weekend in person or via phone. In addition, MSI operates weekend hotline phone number and email to address clients' questions and issues.
